Description from GoodReads:

Miriam's family should be rich. After all, her grandfather was the co-creator of smash-hit comics series The TomorrowMen. But he sold his rights to the series to his co-creator in the 1960s for practically nothing, and now that's what Miriam has: practically nothing. And practically nothing to look forward to either-how can she afford college when her family can barely keep a roof above their heads? As if she didn't have enough to worry about, Miriam's life gets much more complicated when a cute boy shows up in town . . . and turns out to be the grandson of the man who defrauded Miriam's grandfather, and heir to the TomorrowMen fortune.

Review:

I wish my name wasn't Tristan Terrific.
I'm a huge fan of Faith Erin Hicks's series, The Nameless City. So, I was really excited to read Comics Will Break Your Heart. The premise of selling the rights to a comic book series, and not knowing that one day you could have been a millionaire, sounded like a really interesting read to me. Not to mention, that the story took place in Nova Scotia, something that doesn't happen in YA books often, and that the cover was drop dead gorgeous.

Unfortunately, I didn't fall in love with Comics Will Break Your Heart like I thought I would. Besides the interesting premise, and somewhat intriguing characters, the story fell flat for me. It was as if I was always expecting a conflict or something exciting to happen, but when it came, it was more like a quick bump in the road than anything worth being excited about.

In regards to writing style, I also found her descriptions to be a little too much in some cases. With the author being used to drawing pictures to describe scenes, it was understandable that she would make a few mistakes here and there in regard to written descriptions.

I didn't love Comics Will Break Your Heart, but it wasn't as big of a let down that I would avoid her future work. I'm still very excited to read Pumpkinheads come August 2019.
