Review:

Contains Spoilers:

I suppose a fire that burns that bright is not meant to last.
I never really enjoyed The Hunger Games by Susanne Collins. So when I finished the series and started looking for another series to read my friends recommended Divergent. There was so much hype about it being the next Hunger Games that I just didn't want to give it a try. Normally hype doesn't get to me but for some reason this time it did. Last June I came across a used copy of Divergent for sale and finally decided to give it a try. I was instantly blown away by how phenomenal it was. That sadly wasn't the case for Allegiant. I was disappointed with how Veronica finished the series. I understood why she killed off Tris, but I just didn't like how it all played out. With how the the whole city was an experiment? I'm sorry but I couldn't stand it. My first impression was correct, it was another Hunger Games. I loved the characters and the original idea, Veronica did an astonishing job creating this world. No matter how I felt about the ending I'm glad I read the series.
You can see Divergent in theatres March 21, 2014.

Book Review: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Release Date: January 10,  2012
Read: January 8,  2014
Publisher: Dutton Books
Series: N/A
Format: Hardcover,  313 pages
Source: Gift

Description on GoodReads:

Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs... for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

Review:

I'm Okay.

...Not really.

I heard about this novel from many different people, the things I heard were incredible. As I looked into this book I slowly began to want to read it, but I also became afraid. I don't read realistic fiction. When I read, I read to go to different places that I'll never experience. With The Fault in Our Stars, people live and battle with cancer in their everyday lives. That could happen to me or one of my loved ones one day, that thought made me afraid to hear Hazel and Augustus's story. But I'm glad I read it anyway.
The story began with Hazel not enjoying her life/time she had left, but that changed when she met Augustus Waters. I adored both characters, which made it sad in the end. When the story is about cancer patients you practically know how it's going to end. Even with that the strengths and optimism of the characters is heartwarming. Most of the time people living with cancer have let the thought of death ruin them, because as Augustus said depression is a side affect of dying. Augustus has shown Hazel and the readers that there is another side to life with cancer. Live with what time you have, don't waste it.
This story had me on a roller coaster that went up until it couldn't go any higher. It had me smiling, giggling, and crying. But most importantly this novel was a work of perfection. John Green has made us seen the world in a completely different point of view, and we thank him for that.
John Green has written many other works of art including Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines. Most of these have won many awards. He currently runs vlogbrothers with his brother Hank.

Top Ten Series Enders of 2013

These novels are from series that ended in 2013.
This list consists of the last books in series, and they are listed by how I thought the series ended.

Consume

Author: Melissa Darnell
Series: The Clann Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

Tristan Coleman has survived the change from Clann magic user to vampire, much to Savannah Colbert's joy—and despair. By changing the Clann's golden boy and newly elected leader, even to save him from death, she has unleashed a fury of hatred and fear that they cannot escape.

As the Clann and the vampire council go to war, Tristan and Sav face a new threat—a fracturing of the all-consuming bond they share. To fight for peace, they must forge a new trust and risk everything to take down their deadliest enemy, even as they must run for their lives. Soon they will learn that some bonds are stronger than love—and some battles cannot be won without sacrifice.

My Thoughts:

I always love a when in a book the relationship blooms from a friendship, especially when the friendship started when they were children. It's just the cutest thing ever! Melissa is a terrific writer, even with what I found a crazy plot line. I was pulled in right away, and when I finished I found myself wanting more. It'll be sad to see you go.

Sever

Author: Lauren DeStefano
Series: The Chemical Garden Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

My Thoughts:

When I first heard of Lauren it wasn't because I heard she was an author, but because I heard she was a "crazy cat lady". Also because Beth Revis is really good friends with her as well. But don't you worry, this crazy cat lady knows how to write books. Lauren writes Dystopian novels, which is what this series is. I found this series very creative and unique, with so much crazy and adventure packed into each novel I just couldn't put them down. Now with this series over, I can't wait to pick up Perfect Ruin. But for now I will settle for cat tweets filling up my news feed:)

The Goddess Inheritance

Author: Aimee Carter
Series: The Goddess Test Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

   Love or life.
   Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
   Kate must choose.
During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.
In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.
With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.
Even if it costs her eternity.

My Thoughts:

I'm a greek mythology nerd making The Goddess Test Series a must read. I found the first novel in the series in my public library, the cover pulled me in right away. I found the fonts and layout gorgeous. This series is one of the few that I have read that has had the main character pregnant. I understand that with YA novels the main being pregnant isn't a good thing, considering they are usually between the ages of 16 and 18 but wouldn't it be good to see our favourite characters in their happily ever after with children? I would think so.

Shades of Earth

 Author: Beth Revis
Series: Across the Universe Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn't the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed's former passengers aren't alone on this planet. And if they're going to stay, they'll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been for nothing.

   FUELED BY LIES.
   RULED BY CHAOS.
   ALMOST HOME.

 My Thoughts:

One of my favourite things is when someone has a passion love for something and they stick with it.       When reading anyone of Beth's novels in the series you can see that Beth has a love for space. If you were to follow her on any of her social media sites you can see it there as well. Beth took her love for space and made it something more, and what she made was an out of this world series. I loved seeing how Beth pictured the universe. The Across the Universe trilogy introduced me to Sci-Fi novels, and I couldn't be more happier. The only thing I didn't enjoy about the series is that they were always changing the cover design. For people who owned the books before Shades of Earth was released will not have a complete set of the same covers, and we will never see the third cover how we pictured it. I am disappointed with the covers but the story was VERY well written. Good job Beth:)

With All My Soul

 Author: Rachel Vincent
Series: Soul Screamers Series

Description from GoodReads:

What does it mean when your school is voted the most dangerous in America? It's time to kick some hellion butt...

After not really surviving her junior year (does "undead" count as survival?), Kaylee Cavanaugh has vowed to take back her school from the hellions causing all the trouble. She's going to find a way to turn the incarnations of Avarice, Envy and Vanity against one another in order to protect her friends and finish this war, once and forever.

But then she meets Wrath and understands that she's closer to the edge than she's ever been. And when one more person close to her is taken, Kaylee realizes she can't save everyone she loves without risking everything she has...

My Thoughts:

My first read by Rachel Vincent was her Shifters series(adult fiction), when I had finished the series I went and hunted down the first Soul Screamers novel. Boy was it hard, it seemed like no one had it but I did it. The effort to find this series was well worth it. I loved the idea of banshee or bean sidhe as Rachel calls them. When we hear someone scream we automatically think danger, which is what lurks around every corner for Kaylee Cavanaugh. In the series we found underworld drugs, soul dealers, and lots of screams. I found the conclusion to this series appropriate. With so much dealing with the devil going on, you'd have thought Kaylee would have done it sooner. Especially with her friends and family on the line. My favourite book in this series is If I Die, I cried my eyes out when Todd found Kaylee in her bedroom dying, it was a very emotion moment for me. I look forward to the next series Rachel has for me.

The Rising

 Author: Kelley Armstrong
Series: Darkness Rising Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the powerful St. Clouds and now a rival Cabal as well, they're quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it's not like they can just go to the authorities for help.

All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they're so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting more and more out of control.

But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she'll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can't keep running forever.

My Thoughts:

When this series came out I had hoped it would somehow connect with the Darkest Powers trilogy. At first it didn't seem like it was going to but with the way the series was going I was fine without a tie in. In The Rising my calls were answered! My favourite characters from both series were combined into one last  epic book! Incredible! Can't wait for her next mind blowing YA series!

If I Should Die

 Author: Amy Plum
Series: Revenants Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France’s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn’t be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he’s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we’ve already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying—to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others—so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

My Thoughts:

I've been with this series since I picked up Die for Me from the library, to having it in my hand when saying goodbye to my aunt. This series has given me smiles, and it's given me tears. I will forever love and remember The Revenants. It'll be heard to see them go. I hope someday I'll be able to see the wonders of Paris that the Revenants get to see everyday.

Boundless

Author: Cynthia Hand
Series: Unearthly Trilogy

Description from GoodReads:

The past few years have held more surprises than part-angel Clara Gardner could ever have anticipated. Yet from the dizzying highs of first love, to the agonizing low of losing someone close to her, the one thing she can no longer deny is that she was never meant to live a normal life.

Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfill her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal

My Thoughts:

I read the Unearthly series in August, at first I didn't know what I was about to read. But I'm sure glad I continued. This series had something magical about it that I hadn't read in a while. I needed it, I really did. Also for the fact that the author had finished the series giving us a look at our characters futures. I love when a book series ends that way, showing us that we can get a happy ending. Everyone needs a happy ending, we don't get a lot of those now a days.

Chosen at Nightfall

 Author: C.C Hunter
Series: Shadow Falls

Description from GoodReads:

Kylie Galen's life hasn't been the same since her world was turned upside-down in Born at Midnight, Shadow Falls #1, and now an epic conclusion to her journey—not to mention a tough choice between two guys!—is brewing in Chosen at Nightfall:

When Kylie Galen left Shadow Falls, she thought it was the hardest decision of her life. Heartbroken and separated from everyone she loves, she has to embrace her abilities and what it means to be a chameleon. But as Kylie's journey comes to a close, she must return to the camp that started it all...and she must finally chose between the two boys who love her. The werewolf who broke her heart when he chose his pack over her, and the half-fae who ran from their intense attraction before they ever really had a chance. For Kylie, everything will finally be revealed and nothing will ever be the same.

My Thoughts:

When authors write YA novels they tend to make the characters seem older then they are. When you read about book about a 17 year old, you expect them to act like one. This series isn't one of those series. This series has sass. Enough sass to make you laugh on every page. Everyone wants to feel things when they read, they want their emotions to be in full use. They want to laugh, they want to cry, they want to love and they want to hate. This book has it all. I recommend everyone read this series, because otherwise you're missing out. I promise you don't want to miss out on this series.

Clockwork Princess

Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Infernal Devices

Description from GoodReads:

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Tessa Gray should be happy – aren't all brides happy? Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.

A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa's heart, will do anything to save her.

My Thoughts:

Oh gosh. I could lie and say I didn't enjoy this series, but like I said I'd be lying. This series has made me feel emotions I didn't know I had. Many series have love triangles, in those triangles one person is always left out and the story is just left there with the character. The Infernal Devices did indeed have a love triangle, but in the end  you could never have seen the way the story played out. In the end of the series every little loose end was tied up. Cassandra did such a terrific job of writing this series that I don't think I will ever be the same again. For everyone who loved this series will be happy to know that character from this series will be in her other series The Mortal Instruments which ends in May 2014. I am overjoyed with this and terrified, who knows what Cassandra will do to our beloved characters. That is the question everyone is asking, too bad we'll all have to wait and find out.

Those are my favourite series enders of 2013! Hope you guys will decide to pick up the first book in each of these series!
