Review:

   What a world.

   As most of you know, I am the biggest Adi Alsaid fan. I own all his books, and am always impatient for his next latest and greatest. It was no different with North of Happy.

   One thing I learned right away from North of Happy, was that I was going to be constantly hungry while reading the book. The book is about Carlos, a kid with a love of cooking and food. With saying this, you get a lot of different recipes that keep popping up while you read, the same with at the beginning of each chapter. The book starts out with a recipe to start off each chapter, so you get somewhat of an idea of what each character is eating and of what you suddenly want to eat. One thing I didn't enjoy about the book was that the recipes were not whole/complete recipes, so you were left wondering how to actually make the dish.

   There are a lot of times when in YA when the character does and acts a completely different way than teens do in real life, by them being the "outcast" or "stood out from the others". North of Happy actually has realistic characters. Carlos and his friends did things that I would have done right before going into University, drinking after work, hanging out late into the night, making the mistake of choosing one thing over another, heck, I still do all of that. It was refreshing to actually be able to relate to a character for the first time in a long time.

   Finally, I really enjoyed how the novel showed how Carlos got over his grief. Grief never goes away, you just have to learn how to live with it, and that's exactly what Carlos did. The grief was always a constant in the novel, and how Carlos eventually came to terms with it. It was all nicely written and I couldn't have done it better myself.

   North of Happy has quickly become one of my favourite contemporary novels, and like always, I can't wait to see what Adi Alsaid has in store for us next.

It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they've actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

   Your heart is an asshole for choosing someone else.
   Never Always Sometimes was a top 2015 anticipated read for me, the plot and the cover totally won me over. Like look at it! Simple yet colour filled book covers have always been my favourite, this one probably making the top of the list. Then the description, I'm graduating this year (2015-2016), so it was the perfect book to be reading.
   The setting for Never Always Sometimes didn't feel legitimate for me. The feel of the school, the things that went on for the list, the tree house in the school yard, "attempting" to hook up with the math teacher. Things like that would never happen at my high school, and even if they did or were even attempted then they wouldn't have been given a thumbs up or a warning they would have been suspended or worse. I just couldn't connect with the high school vibe because of it.
   Honestly, everything besides the setting was just fabulous for me, every person had their own twist to them. Julia being my favourite, wild and a bit rebellious! I just couldn't get enough of being in her head! Alsaid gave everyone of his characters something unique, you couldn't not find one of them to relate too!
   Never Always Sometimes is a joyful read that will lift everyone's spirits, certainly a book that you'd expect Adi Alsaid to write! Any book of his is a must read!

   When I was younger my grandparents used to take us to the local Zoo at least once a summer, then we started to get older and my Oma passed on, and so I haven't been to the Zoo in years. 

   A few years ago the Zoo opened a new exhibit, which featured a whole bunch of stuff from Churchill Manitoba. Churchill is the worlds capital for Polar Bears, and its only a 3 day train ride from my home! Because I've actually visited Churchill, I became very excited to see what they had for the exhibits. 

   So finally, today I am Seizing the Tuesday by finally visiting the Zoo with a bunch of my friends! Watch me buy a bunch of lame T-Shirts and stuffed animals aha.

   School started back up from break this week, unfortunately. With the 3 day road trip last week it feels like my Spring Break was only really a weekend. So now I'm back to being a sleep deprived kid with lots of homework that I have to deal with daily. 

   So today I'm going to Seize the Tuesday by rereading The Mortal Instruments series, along with its companions The Infernal Devices and The Bane Chronicles. First up is City of Bones. 

  It may not be much for Seizing the Tuesday, but along with everything I have to do today, it'll just have to do.

A Let's Get Lost Adventure

   Last year I had won a giveaway and received an ARC of Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid. It took me to  last week to finally read it, but I have a reason for it. I wanted to read it when I was on a road trip, which finally happened. 

  My family and I finally went on a road trip because we had purchased a new camper trailer which was located in Monticello, MN. From my home to Monticello it is about a 7 hour drive. So obviously books were needed. 

  That is how I was finally able to read Let's Get Lost.

   For us the trip was somewhat of a slow one, all we would do is sit in our truck and either watch movies or read. So I turned it into a bit of a bookish adventure. When I remembered I had brought Let's Get Lost with me, I just knew it was a perfect idea.

   So along the way I read Let's Get Lost, while taking photos with the book along the way.

Review:

   The day is just hours you're alive for. They can be filled with everything.
   It took me far too long to read this book, I'd gotten Let's Get Lost by winning a giveaway from the author. It was a signed ARC that was raved about, but I just couldn't get myself to read it. The book's main theme was to have an adventure and to get lost in it, so I waited till I could have an adventure of my own. About a year later, I finally had one.
   Let's Get Lost was a book that I found I could relate too in many ways, but mostly with the love of just driving and not having a real destination planned out. I think that's why Bree was my favourite to read about. Even though she was a bit reckless and had a few problems of her own, she just never worried about it, she just let the road take her where it felt like she needed to go. I think people need a little bit of that in their lives, they need to stop worrying about the future and live in the now.
   I also felt a connection to Hudson. Hudson was content with the life he was living, he didn't want much out of life besides the life he was living now. With the interview and his dad, he was under a lot of pressure. I understand that parents want what's best for their kids but why force your kid to become a doctor if that's not what makes them happy? What if being a mechanic was satisfying enough for them? In the book when Lelia asked Hudson why he wanted to be a doctor and he couldn't answer it was because it wasn't what he wanted. His dad had determined that being a doctor was what was best for him. Now a days I think a lot of parents are like that, drilling what they think is best for their kids into their heads without really giving much thought to what the kids want. So I'm glad Hudson missed that interview. He subconsciously did what he thought was best for him rather then what his dad wanted. I am not saying that everyone should do this, but if you want to be a mechanic then be one, if you want to be a doctor then go to school and learn what you need too. Everyone is different and don't need their futures planned ahead for them and Adi got that when writing Let's Get Lost.
   Lelia was everywhere and such a huge part of Let's Get Lost. She was such a helpful and loving person, but I admired her for ability to get lost. She was able to take the bad situation she was in and turn it into an adventure and find multiple treasures along the way. I'd like to be able to do that one day, just take a road trip and find all the little secret treasures that not everyone knows about.
   Let's Get Lost was a heartwarming book where everyone can relate to in some way. Thank you Adi for righting this little treasure that is Let's Get Lost. I just know Never Always Sometimes will be even more of a hit with me. Never Always Sometimes releases August 2015 for everyone looking for another fantastic read like Let's Get Lost.

   After the reading the book, the quote "Everyone needs at least one long road trip in their lives"(Walter Pg.37), I couldn't stop thinking about what I would want to do as my dream road trip. After thinking about it for a while, I kind of knew what I would want to do.
   In the last year and a few months I've made so many bookish friends, so my road trip would probably contain multiple stops all over the US making pitstops at all my close friends towns, along with very popular book stores and sights. It might not be much, but it'll be my "one long road trip"and anyone is welcome to join me if they'd like.

   And what completes a road trip better then a playlist? Nothing I don't think. So obviously I made my own. I listened to it while I read Let's Get Lost and even after I finished it.So here you go!

  Seize the Tuesday, like it says above was created from the book Let's Get Lost. Well for today's Seizing I finally read Let's Get Lost. I had gotten myself an ARC about a year ago and now I've finally read it.

   It wasn't that there was something wrong with the book, it was that like the book I wanted to get lost on my own road trip and read it. So I finally did.

   My family and I are currently on a road trip to a small town beside Minneapolis to pick up a new camping trailer for the summer. It's a 8 hour drive from our home by Winnipeg to the trailer place. So I made it into my own little adventure.

March Wrap Up!

   March was a once again a slow month, nothing really exciting happened in the bookish world for me. March was mostly about hanging out with my really close group of friends, which is always a blast by the way. My family took a weekend off from everything to go skiing, I finally had my birthday party, and oh, I forgot!    Recently I've got back into reading, unlike my last Seize the Tuesday where I couldn't find the time to read. In the past week I finished Lailah by Nikki Kelly, and Talon by Julie Kagawa and today I finished Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder. You could say that I'm on a roll! Which is perfect because recently I've been so stressed out that I needed some books in my life. The only problem I have now, is figuring out what to read next!

   At home I have a pile of books that I've been meaning to read and have no idea what I should pick up next. Looking at GoodReads helps, asking people on Twitter does too but I can never make the final decision! What do you guys do to pick your next book to read?

   So today I Seized the Tuesday by picking out what to read next, it may seem small but I still feel like I Seized the Tuesday.

My First Blogiversary!

   One. Whole. Year.

   Oh my goodness how time has flown. Who would have thought I would have been blogging for a whole year? I sure didn't. When I first started blogging I would never have thought I'd have been so successful with everything, always posting, page views, blogger friends, actually getting ARCS. When I first started my blog, to be honest I only had one goal in mind, and that was to practice my writing skills.

   In 2010 when I first became obsessed with books, I couldn't get rid of the idea of having my own book published and on shelves in stores. Of course, my mom being a mom kept on telling me each day to practice writing. Being a procrastinator and a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing, I kept on putting it off. Eventually after some time my mom suggested starting a book blog, I decided to give it a chance. Now look where I am today!

   

   This year has been one of the most astounding years I've had in a while, not to mention one of the fastest. In the past year I started High School, I made a bunch of new friends in school and I've been always working and running my blog.

   When I first started my blog I thought I'd get maybe a few pages views a day. Little did I expect people would actually be interested in seeing what I post. 

   This is my break down for the year.

Highlights of Ohana Reads 2014:

   Everyone has their own highlights of the year, mine just happen to narrow down to 3 particular events.

1. Requesting ARC's for the very first time and actually being accepted and having them come in the mail. ( Burning Kingdoms by Lauren DeStefano & Eternal by C.C Hunter)

2. Getting an ARC of Diamonds in the Rough by Michelle Madow in the mail and discovering my name in the acknowledgements page. This event was one of the best events of 2014, having my name in a book was apart of a dream of mine and to have it fulfilled was heart whelming. I cried. 

3. Finally going to YALLFest 2014, since I became a book nerd I'd only had one author come to Winnipeg, and that was Kelley Armstrong. I have no problems with that, but I would have loved another chance at meeting authors. So when YALLFest finally come around, I was in heaven. Having meet some of my bookish idols was incredible. Then being able to be in my zone with hundred of other book people, I couldn't have been happier. 

Goals for 2015:

   2014 for me was the year of buying books (Oops) so hopefully 2015 will be the year of actually reading them. So you could say that that'll be my goal for 2015, to catch up on my reading from last year.  Another goal of mine for 2015 is to actually find a blog layout that I like, as you can see I'm still messing with the designs and such, so hopefully I'll find something that is right for me.


  2014 was way better then I could have ever asked for, and I hope to that 2015 will be just as great and maybe better. Without everyone that's helped me out throughout the year I definitely wouldn't be here today. From Jess helping me get set up last year and answering all my questions ( Girl you are my absolute favourite, thank you for all your help. I heart you.) to having all my friends on Twitter help me whenever I needed it. Thank you all so much, you don't understand how much it means to me that you guys are always there for me. Thanks again.
