Something cold. Something very, very cold.
That was my first sensation, though I didn’t have much time to think of it. The scenery before me was ice again—pure ice, except now the ice was so close I could almost touch it …
“No!” someone cried, but the voice was soon muffled. I knew that voice. Janine. My cousin. Where was she? Where had everyone gone? It wasn’t until that moment that I realized something was holding me. Something cool wrapped around my waist, as large as a pond, gripping me. My head lifted and then leaned backward. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust and truly understand what I was looking at.
The face was made of ice. It had two devilishly cold eyes almost as large as the moon.
“Child is awake,” it said, cool mist running from the Ice Giant’s mouth. “It’s dinner time.”
