Description from GoodReads:

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer—the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.

Review:

Fear is a part of life; all the matters is what we do with it.
It wasn't until the second time I picked up All the Stars and Teeth that I became obsessed and needed to devour it in one sitting.

The world itself is fantastic. The world building hooks you in from the very beginning, making you want to go on a journey just to see the world for yourself.

Then of course, my love of mermaids knows no bounds and it was the same with All the Stars and Teeth. I knew it was going to be a sea adventure and contain mermaids from the synopsis, but I did not think it the mermaids would be a big focus. Vataea ended up being my favourite character, because as I've mentioned before, my favourite kind of mermaid is the murderous man-eating kind. Of course, I loved her for her sass as well.

Besides the mermaids and world building, the story was fascinating and magical too. I could not get over all the various kinds of magic and how well they were explained.

All the Stars and Teeth was just the magical sea adventure I needed and I'd recommend it for anyone looking to expand their world with pirates, adventure and obviously, new mermaid tales.

"Are you flirting with me? It's a bit hard to tell, considering how terrifying you are.”
